Recording engineer and producer Jimmy Robinson discussed the making of Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gyspies at a special Brewery event on July 20th, hosted by Sidetour.
Robinson is a famed recording engineer who’s career started in the 1960’s. He worked on the Band of Gypsies album, not to mention with other artists like Led Zeppelin, Mick Jagger, Fleetwood Mack, and David Bowie. He worked at the Record Plant, Electric Lady, Larabee Sound and Chung King as an engineer.
Sidetour is an organization that connects people with unique experiences. On this date, it was the to hear Robinson speak about his work on this one specific album as the highlight.
Robinson brought in his gold plaque, with a hand-written thank you from Jimi Hendrix, as well as some books and awards he’s received. He provided insight into his experiences with Hendrix, from the equipment used, to the takes the chose, to the type of characters he worked with.
Robinson, a Brooklyn resident, wished to have the Brewery Recording Studio host the evening because of the outdoor space that was complete with drinks and hor’doeuvres for the guests who had to reserve and purchase their spots ahead of time.
